Observed data and modeled estimates answer different questions. These datasets are not a single time series. We do not fill missing years with estimates or treat hybrid vehicles as battery-only EVs.
Denmark · observed 2025 · grouped powertrains
The agency counts dispatches to fires involving vehicles and reports a fleet-based rate for electric and hybrid cars combined. This is not an isolated traction-battery ignition rate; the rate is not adjusted for vehicle age or mileage, and the exact within-year fleet exposure denominator is not specified in the factsheet.
Read beyond the bars.
Fire counts need a fleet denominator. Lifecycle emissions depend on vehicle size, lifetime and the electricity mix. Cold-weather tests depend on the cars, temperatures and cabin heating. A useful comparison explains these differences.
Why there isn’t a global fire-risk leaderboard
There is no harmonized dataset in this collection for battery-only EV and combustion-car fires across the US, Europe, China and Australia. We show Denmark’s explicitly grouped statistics instead of inventing rates for missing markets.
